We write this in response to public statements made by Cora Jones that the Oglala Sioux Tribal President, Harold Salway, and other segments of Lakota society are trying to "overthrow the IRA government system". This is patently false and a dangerous interference by Cora Jones with our sovereign process of self-governance. IN fact, this week we began a very orderly and inclusive project to reform the IRA government in accordance with the guidelines with the C.F.R. This is a respectable and legal process that should receive full federal support instead of uninformed interference by Cora Jones or Robert Ecoffey. We urge you to appoint an independent investigator form you office to observe this process immediately. The unwarranted interference of Cora Jones and Robert Ecoffey into this internal matter is making things much worse than they really are. WE look forward to your immediate response. Regards,
